Sunday Style: Star Sweater

Sunday, November 30, 2014

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday weekend, I know I did. It was amazing to just take some time with family. I'm sad to leave home to go back to school and New York, but I've got a concert and event and lots of fun things to do when I get back (not to mention a lot of homework and finals to prepare for). It's only three weeks until I'm back home so I'm just excited to get this semester done!

I've got an outfit for you today featuring one of my favorite sweaters - I got it from H&M a few years ago and it's held up surprisingly well. I paired it with a black dress I got at a boutique in my hometown and then made it a bit fancier with tights and boots!

I love the detail on the skirt part of the dress

A Thanksgiving Outfit

Thursday, November 27, 2014

Happy Thanksgiving! Here's the outfit I wore for the day (even though I took these photos a few days before - I knew I'd be so busy cooking so I wanted to get it ready) and I love it for the holiday. It's so cute and festive and it's super flowy - which is perfect for the copious amounts of food I like to eat on Thanksgiving.

Giving Thanks / Reflecting on Thanksgiving

To all those who celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you have a lovely day. To those who do not, may your Thursday be filled with love and joy.

I am thankful for my beautiful family, amazing friends, and the life that I have. I know that I live a life that many wish they could, and I never take that for granted. Though this is a holiday to give thanks, let's remember the important things in life and the people who aren't given these opportunities.

 Remember that this is Native American Heritage Month and while this holiday can be made of whatever you want it to be, there are those that will celebrate and reflect upon it differently. Here are two great things to read (x/x) about this holiday. They're wholly interesting and crucial to read.

In school, we are taught that Thanksgiving was the day that the Europeans and Native American came together to peacefully enjoy a meal and combine their two cultures, but that's not the entire truth. I'm glad to be completely educated now and realize what exactly Thanksgiving and the National Day of Mourning really is. Here is something I found really helpful for understanding and explaining everything to kids and those younger than you.

I celebrate this holiday as a day to bring together my family and friends, and give thanks for the things I am lucky enough to experience and enjoy, remembering that there are many people on this day who aren't as lucky as me. This day means recognizing what I'm thankful for and realizing that there are cultures, groups, and people who I have enormous differences with, whilst sharing some of the same core values and ideas. So, I give my love to them and hope you all have a wonderful day.

Festive Thanksgiving Makeup

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Hey guys! Today I'm sharing the makeup look that I'm doing for Thanksgiving. I decided to go with a pink toned brown smoky eye with gold because my outfit for the day will be a pretty red dress. It's a great look for the holidays because the colors are very festive and sparkly and can really be used or modified for any sort of outfit or party!

For the majority of this look I used Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette because it has great warm and pink toned colors.

To Create This Look:

1. Start off by priming your eyes with your favorite primer {I used the L'Oreal De-Crease Primer - my favorite}
2. Pat 'Buzz' from the Urban Decay Naked 3 across your whole lid {it's a deep shimmery pink and by patting this across your whole lid, it will really shine through the rest of the shadow we put on, really encapsulating that pink toned look I want}
3. Darken the crease using 'Mugshot' {this will add that brown, smoky definition into the crease}
4. Pat 'Trick' across your lid {this is a deep gold shade, with pink undertones, it looks totally perfect for the holiday season}
5. Darken up the crease with 'Darkside' {this is a shade darker than 'Mugshot', so we're just taking a shade that's darker and deepening our crease}
6. Pat 'Liar' across the outer your part of the lid {this is a cranberry/brown shimmer shade and will finally darken up the entire look}
7. For a final bit of definition, take the slightest bit of 'Blackheart' into your crease, bringing it down to your lower lash line to balance the look and define your lower lash line {this is a dark, pink toned shade, that's super pigmented and gorgeous. It'll add the last bit of definition we want}

8. Line your lid very lightly, using whatever liner you want {I went in with Maybelline's Eye Stuido Lasting Gel Liner because I wanted something to stay put all day on the copious amount of shadow I used. Using 'Blackheart' or a dark shadow across the top lash line works perfectly too}
9. Get that mascara on your eyes {I used the Maybelline Rocket Volum Express and then went over it with Too Faced's Better Than Sex}
10. The last step for me is adding lipstick. This is a definite optional step, but I wanted just a bit of color on my lips. {I used YSL's Rouge Volupte Shine in #1 - Nude Beige - which was a great nudey pink shade since my eyes were so dark}

Do you like how it turned out? What is your go-to Thanksgiving makeup?

Airport Makeup and Outfit

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

As you're reading this, I'm probably all settled at home all snuggly in bed with my puppy! I thought I'd share what I wore to go to the airport and what makeup I thought was perfect for such an early flight. (I left at 6:55 A.M.)

When I fly, I find it best to go for comfort. Obviously, I try to look at least a bit stylish, but all I really care about is making sure nothing is too tight or pinching me while I'm on a plane.

 Here's what I wore....

Shirt: Target | Pants: American Apparel | Jacket: Urban Outfitters | Scarf: NYC Street Vendor | Shoes: Nike | Hat: Urban Outfitters

This was a great outfit because the jacket brought in a bit of that style I wanted, but the t-shirt and sweats made it oh so comfortable! Adding a scarf is also essential!

For the makeup, I went really basic. First off, as I mentioned in my last post, you want to be super moisturized while flying because it drys you out. I primed with two different moisturizing primers to help keep myself hydrated. Since my flight was super early in the morning, I wanted a look that not only brightened me up, but looked natural and worked up my glasses.
I used the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind under my eyes and then very lightly gave my crease definition using the Naked Basics palette, finishing with a shimmer shade across my lids. After that, all I needed to do was draw in some really thin liquid liner and add mascara. For a final 'Wake Me Up' vibe, I added white eyeliner on my lower water line and gave my inner tear duct a bit of a highlight.

This works great under glasses and for flights because I still feel super hydrated, and I'm not wearing too much product on the face.

What is your go-to makeup and outfit for a plane ride?

What's in my bag: Airport Edition

Monday, November 24, 2014

With Thanksgiving in a few days, I'll be flying home for the holiday (my first time in my college career!) and I'm so excited. I thought I'd share with you what's in my bag for the airport - the essentials for traveling!

1. LP Blue Black Satchel Bag {this is the same bag I mentioned in my last What's in my Bag, but it's a great one for travel. It has a bunch of room and is stylish and chic}
2. A Good Book {I think I'm going to start reading #GirlBoss by the NastyGal CEO Sophia Amoruso, it's supposed to be a great book and I love the brand}
3. My Iphone {pretty obvious one - I need this so I can play games and listen to music on a flight}
4. Kindle {I love to read so having my kindle full up with books is essential for flights}
5. A Comb {I'm not sure about you, but often I'll fall asleep on a flight and my hair will become a huge mess, so having a comb is helpful so I can put myself together post-airplane}
6. A Comfy Hat {especially as it's winter, I love having a super comfy hat on my head. It's especially great when napping on the flight and I don't have to worry about my hair}
7. My Camera {I need this, especially because I love documenting the fun things I get up to}
8. Snacks!!!!! {I'm a snacker, always, so having a little treat is probably in the top 3 airplane essentials for me}
10. Lotion {high altitude drys out your skin so it's really important to keep yourself hydrated (with water) and to keep your skin all moisturized. I love this little Olay bottle because it's perfectly travel sized.
11. Sunglasses {pretty much another obvious one, gotta protect those peepers people}
12. Headphones {need these to go along with my phone, so I can listen to music, audiobooks, and watch TV on my laptop}
13. Big Scarf {a big, cozy scarf is one of my favorite things to bring on a flight no matter the season. It can double as a pillow and also is great for blocking out noise and light}
14. Emergen-C {one of my favorites of all time, I love this stuff. It keeps me healthy and tastes amazing}
15. Wallet {definitely cannot fly without my wallet which has all my IDs and money}
16. Lippies {I usually bring both a lipstick and lip balm on a flight and around with me in general. My YSL Nude Beige lipstick is a great everyday color and this EOS balm is perfect for keeping my lips hydrated and safe from the cold}
17. Hand Sanitizer {It's amazing the amount of germs there are in an airport, so having hand sanitizer when you travel is one of my top tips}
18. Hair Stuff {I always travel with multiple hair ties and hair clips because it's smart and you never know when you'll need to pop your hair up in a ponytail}
19. Mints {I never fail to have a Starbucks mocha while I travel so mints are needed to freshen it all up}
20. Eyedrops {I wear contacts so in the high altitude, my eyes will get especially dry. They'll also dry a bit when I sleep and keep my eyes closed too long so it's great to have a way to rewet them}
21. Makeup {I don't wear too much makeup on flight days but I like to have a few essentials with me for touchups. For me, that means mascara and concealer. I've got my #1 concealer the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind and a fave mascara,the Smashbox Full Exposure mascara}
22. A Mini Bag {I love this IPSY bag I got a few months ago, and it's where I put the makeup, hand sanitizer, hair stuff, eyedrops, and mints}

What do you put in your Airport bag? Any important essentials I missed?

Happy Traveling!

Sunday Style: A New Black Dress

Sunday, November 23, 2014

Black dresses are my absolute weakness and in Winter, I find myself wearing them almost every other day.

My newest black dress is this Tribal Bead Necklace Crepe Dress from eShakti. The site lets you customize what you order, in almost every way possible. That means that you can input your measurements and even decide what sleeve length you want. It's truly a fantastic feeling knowing that whatever you've picked from their site will fit you perfectly and make you feel comfortable!

I love how it turned out and thank them for sending me this wonderful product. I can definitely give it my 100% recommendation because the fit turned out wonderfully and makes me feel comfortable and beautiful. (All my roommates ooh'ed and ahh'ed when they first saw me in it, that must be a good sign)

I decided to show you guys two different ways I style it. One is the more dressed up version, which would be great to wear out with friends to dinner or to a show. The second look is more casual, one that I'd wear to grab lunch or go to class in.

Dressed Up

Dressing up means simple and classic. I added heels and a blazer and gave myself a pretty brown smoky eye to achieve this look. I didn't need to add any accessories to this because the detailing around the neckline is fabulous and is the star of the dress.

This dress has major twirlage - a definite plus for me

Blazer: Forever 21 (similar style) | Dress: eShakti | Shoes: J.C. Penney (similar style)  Lipstick: Rimmel Show Off Lip Laquer in 'Nude Eclipse'

Dressed Down

It's so easy to dress this down, so all I did was add a kimono and pop on some cute black boots. I think it looks funky and cute, and definitely unique.

Kimono: Warehouse (similar style) | Dress: eShakti | Shoes: H&M  Lipstick: Rimmel Show Off Lip Laquer in 'Nude Eclipse'

How would you style this dress?

NARS Creamy Concealer Dupe

Saturday, November 22, 2014

The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is one of the most coveted and well-loved concealers out there, and I had been wanting it for ages. It's one of those products that beauty bloggers, vloggers, and experts alike sing their praises to. I finally bought it and it did turn out to be a fantastic product but I'm not sure it was worth the whopping $30 it cost me.

I thought I'd share with you a dupe of this product, the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, which will cost you only $7, saving you $23 dollars in the process.

I'll show you some swatches and compare the products below.

Friday Favorites: Fall Television Roundup

Friday, November 21, 2014

Hey guys! I have some Friday Favorites for you today. Today I'm sharing my five favorite New Fall Shows that premiered awhile ago. I know it's been awhile since they first came out, but it made me realize which ones are my favorites (aka which ones you must watch).

Jane The Virgin

This is a must watch. This is a great article that kind of sums up everything wonderful about it but I'll tell you why I love it. First off, Gina Rodriguez (who plays Jane) is fantastic. She excels in this role and her performance is so wonderful. I also love that despite being this over the top plot, it's so believable because the characters have so much depth. It's also done by the same people who worked on the show Pushing Daisies which is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's unique and funny and touching and definitely something that everyone needs to watch!

Marry Me

I'll start off by saying Casey Wilson is one of my favorite people, ever. You might remember her for her season on SNL and I was so sad to see her go but then she popped up as the hilarious Penny on Happy Endings, which ended up being another one of my favorite shows. She stars now on Marry Me with Ken Marino (another fave - Party Down anyone?) which was developed by the same creator as Happy Endings. It's hilarious and Casey Wilson is absolutely incredible. Watch it!

How to Get Away With Murder

Shonda has done it again. If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, or Private Practice, then you'll love this. It's such a great, twisty crime show and the characters are fantastic. It's really enjoyable, mindless fun as well. Plus Dean Thomas from Harry Potter plays Wes and Viola Davis will blow your mind with how good she is! Love this show!

In addition to all these shows, I watch a bunch more each season. I love TV so much so I try to inhale as much as I can!

What are your favorite fall shows?

A Bit of Pink

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Pink is probably my favorite color; I have the bed sheets and notebooks and knick knacks to prove it. The thing is, I don't really ever wear pink. There might be a bit of pink in a floral top I have but I think the only pink thing I own is a winter dress that I barely wear. I also am not prone to wearing pink lipstick or eyeshadow either. I decided to give that a change once I got the new Too Faced Everything Nice Holiday Palette since it has quite a few really beautiful pinky shades that I couldn't resist trying out.

I love how it turned out (especially the slight ombre effect) and I think pink should be something I experiment a lot more with!

To Create This Look:

New In: Too Faced Everything Nice Holiday Palette

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

I've got a new product to talk about today and it's one that I've been eyeing ever since it was announced as a special holiday palette. It's the Too Faced 'Everything Nice (that's what pretty girls are made of)' Palette and it's gorgeous. It's from their Christmas Collection and retails for $56, with a value of $450. I must say, the price is right

The palette comes with 20 eyeshadows, one bronzer, two blushes, and one illuminating powder as well as three mini brushes, a mini mascara, and a makeup bag.

I'm going to talk about each product included in the palette along with swatches and photos of everything. Keep reading if you want to learn more about this palette.

Winter Friendly Makeup

Monday, November 17, 2014

Although I adore winter weather, it also means dry skin, chapped lips, and bitter wind that makes your eyes water. With the colder months in full swing at this point (at least where I am) it's the time to change up beauty routines in order to combat the damage done to your skin by winter.

Today I'm going to share with you my picks for the best winter friendly makeup products that will keep your skin healthy and hydrated and also keep you looking put together in the wintry months! I'll also share with you this makeup look using those hydrating products.

In general you should keep both your body and your skin fully hydrated. Having a glass of water as soon as you wakeup is a great way to jumpstart your skin for the day. Before I do my makeup, I wash my face and then moisturize my skin. Post moisturizing, I wait about 15 minutes for it to settle into the skin before I start applying makeup.

Here are my picks for the best 'winter friendly' makeup products (that I currently own).

A Saturday at Bryant Park / In Pictures

Sunday, November 16, 2014

I hope everyones had a fun weekend! Mine was especially wonderful as my best friend was visiting from Massachusetts. She's been to New York many many times so it's always fun when she comes because we have fun exploring the city together and going to our favorite places. One of those favorite places is Bryant Park, especially during the holiday season. The ice rink is put up and they have a wonderful Christmas village spread across the whole park, with little shops and food places. It's such a wonderful and beautiful place to just walk around with a coffee. We even saw a couple do their 'first look' - which is when the bride and groom see each other and see the dress before the wedding - it was so beautiful!

I thought I'd share with you some pictures of our day in the park. Hope you all enjoy and hope you had fun enjoying the changing of the seasons this weekend.

A Pop of Color / Outfit of the Day

Friday, November 14, 2014

Happy Friday! Today I've got a quick Outfit of the Day, featuring a super cute kimono/robe that I've been loving. It's long-sleeved, so it's awesome for the Autumn and Winter months.
