Friday Favorites: Fall Television Roundup

Friday, November 21, 2014

Hey guys! I have some Friday Favorites for you today. Today I'm sharing my five favorite New Fall Shows that premiered awhile ago. I know it's been awhile since they first came out, but it made me realize which ones are my favorites (aka which ones you must watch).

Jane The Virgin

This is a must watch. This is a great article that kind of sums up everything wonderful about it but I'll tell you why I love it. First off, Gina Rodriguez (who plays Jane) is fantastic. She excels in this role and her performance is so wonderful. I also love that despite being this over the top plot, it's so believable because the characters have so much depth. It's also done by the same people who worked on the show Pushing Daisies which is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's unique and funny and touching and definitely something that everyone needs to watch!

Marry Me

I'll start off by saying Casey Wilson is one of my favorite people, ever. You might remember her for her season on SNL and I was so sad to see her go but then she popped up as the hilarious Penny on Happy Endings, which ended up being another one of my favorite shows. She stars now on Marry Me with Ken Marino (another fave - Party Down anyone?) which was developed by the same creator as Happy Endings. It's hilarious and Casey Wilson is absolutely incredible. Watch it!

How to Get Away With Murder

Shonda has done it again. If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, or Private Practice, then you'll love this. It's such a great, twisty crime show and the characters are fantastic. It's really enjoyable, mindless fun as well. Plus Dean Thomas from Harry Potter plays Wes and Viola Davis will blow your mind with how good she is! Love this show!

In addition to all these shows, I watch a bunch more each season. I love TV so much so I try to inhale as much as I can!

What are your favorite fall shows?

Let's talk about those Emmy Nominations....

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Hi friends!

As of late, my blog has been mostly dominated by food and beauty posts. I love doing these posts, because I'm very interested in both beauty and food! But, I also like to branch out and write posts about other things I'm interested in. One of those things that I'm interested in is Television. I speak about my favorite shows often in real life and on social media so I thought I should incorporate it more into my blog.

So, that being said, I'm going to talk about T.V. today! This morning, Emmy Nominations were announced so I'm just going to give my opinions and thoughts about them! Being a T.V. junkie, I have a lot to say! :)

What They Got Wrong: Snubs

A huge issue for me with the Emmy's or the Golden Globes when it comes to Television is that they often snub actors or shows that deserve nominations! (Nick Offerman from Parks and Rec, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls - Lauren Graham is a goddess okay?, Orphan Black, SNL, and so on). I'm going to talk about the top 5 snubs this year!

1. Orphan Black and Tatiana Maslany (AGAIN)
If you are unaware, Orphan Black is about a woman named Sarah, played by Maslany, who figures out that she has quite a few clones! Sounds like a brilliant concept, right? It is! From the pilot episode on, the twists and turns do not stop. It's suspenseful, exciting, and has just the right amount of heart and humor. This is unequivocally my favorite show at the moment and has easily made my Top-10 shows of all time list (that's a hard feat if you're wondering). To see it snubbed is really upsetting. I feel that the Emmy's often ignore many Sci-Fi series' which is silly.

Tatiana Maslany is one of the most talented actresses of our time. On this show she plays upwards of 6 completely different characters all with different accents, appearances, and personalities. And she pulls it off so well that you forget it's just one woman doing this all!

2. The Mindy Project and Mindy Kaling

The next disappointing snub is that of The Mindy Project and Mindy Kaling in the Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series categories.

For the past two seasons, this show has been consistently laugh-out-loud hilarious, smart, and just plain fun. The way Mindy acts, writes, and cultivates her show makes it so deserving of many nominations. (Ike Barinholtz as Morgan is one of my favorite things ever)

3. Emmy Rossum

If you haven't watched Emmy Rossum playing her heart out as Fiona Gallagher on 'Shameless' you are missing out on one of the best performances on television. Rossum plays Fiona with so much passion and heart and I am so dissapointed she still (after 4 seasons) has not been recognized for her performance.

4. The Good Wife

One of the best shows on Television. Period. Great acting, great characters, insane twists and turns. This (when paired next to Downton Abbey) should have been nominated. I love this show. It's sad to see it snubbed.

5. Amy Schumer and Inside Amy Schumer

This show is damn hilarious. Sketch shows never really get any love on the Emmy's stage and this year was no different, despite how great Inside Amy Schumer is. It's raunchy and hilarious and Amy is putting out some of the funniest sketches on television right now. In my opinion, this should have gotten more love

What They Got Right: Surprises and Well-Deserved Nominations

1. Orange is the New Black
I was so happy to see OITNB getting love from the Emmy's. A well-deserving best Comedy Series Nod along with nominations for Kate Mulgrew and Taylor Schilling in major categories. It's such a great show with unique plot lines, complex characters, and amazing writing. You should be watching this.

2. Kate McKinnon

I am absolutely ECSTATIC right now over Kate's nomination. She is the star of SNL right now and consistently is the funniest cast member with the best impressions and characters. This is so incredibly well-deserving I want to cry. Don't believe me???? Go watch some stuff and get back to me mmmkay?
3. Lizzy Caplan and Masters of Sex

Great to see 'Masters of Sex' get love from the Emmy's and in particular Lizzy Caplan. I've been obsessed with Lizzy Caplan for awhile now and I'm sooooo glad she's getting some recognition for her great performance on this great new show!

4. Fargo
Glad to see this get a nod for Best Miniseries or TV Movie. I really loved this 10 episode series. Great performances, awesome storyline, and a thousand more things make this really deserving.

5. Silicon Valley
I'm so happy to see this HBO show get a nod for Best Comedy Series. I love it. It's so hilarious and it's nice to see a pretty fresh-faced cast. You'll recognize a bunch of the actors with varying degrees of familiarity and I think that everyone brings something strong. It's fucking funny too.

So there are some of my thoughts on the Nods! What does everyone else think?

Summer TV: My Picks!

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Hey everyone! Today I'm going to be talking about something I think everyone is a huge fan of.... Television!

Television is probably one of my favorite things in this world. I'm a self-defined TV fanatic and binge-watcher extraordinaire. And for a fanatic of televison, sites like Netflix, Hulu +, and HBO Go are not good for me (I have a subscription to all three), especially when paired with a school year.

Thankfully, it's finally summer and that means free time. I use summer as a time to jump into new shows, as well as catching up on my favorites. I know a lot of our favorite shows end as summer begins, but a new crop of fun, summer TV always emerges. I'm really excited about that.

Today, I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite shows that are returning this summer as well as my thoughts and picks for new summer shows.

Let's get into it!!

Returning Shows:

Orange is the New Black - I'm not spreading any new information here really, as everyone who has a Netflix account is probably just as obsessed. This show is amazing. I love the women in the cast and the portrayal of the prison  system, especially when women are swung into it. I was so pumped for this new season, which just premiered a few days ago and is available for streaming on Netflix now, and it did not disappoint. I'm halfway through the season and obsessed! New characters, new problems, and a bunch of raunchy situations that anyone will be happy to see are allllll happening. Watch it now!! (Netflix)

Teen Wolf - I'm not a teen anymore but this is one of my favorite shows. I've always been obsessed with any vampiric, werewolfic, or supernatural-esque show and when I saw how CUTE these wolves were, I was hooked. The show has matured throughout it's three seasons and the angst has grown just as much as the characters have. Although I love it, last season left me a little peeved so I'm giving this next season a warning, hoping it doesn't break my heart again. Alas, I probably won't ever stop watching, if only for the beautiful people in every episode (I'm talking about you Dylan O'Brien). (June 23, 10/9c MTV)

Masters of Sex - After an absolutely amazing first season, I'm so excited this show is back. It's about real-life sex researchers played by Lizzy Caplan and Michael Sheen, and I'm sure we'll see some sexy shenanigans and complications play out in the second season. I cannot wait! (July 13, 10/9c SHO)

Looks Promising:

The Leftovers - A post-rapture series, set after some of the world's population disappears in what we can assume is a rapture type event. I really like Justin Theroux and HBO usually delivers on shows so this looks really cool. (June 29, 10/9c HBO)

Extant - I'm sure everyone has seen commercials for this but that hasn't deferred my excitement for this show. Basically what I'm getting is that Halle Berry is an astronaut, who comes home after a longer than appropriate baby gestating time period (13 months) to find she's pregnant.... so what the hell is in her? I'm stoked to found out and I love Halle Berry so this sounds good. I hope it's not over hyped and actually delivers some alien weirdness. (July 9, 9/8c CBS)

Welcome to Sweden - Produced by Amy Poehler and starring her brother, this has all the makings of a fantastic summer comedy. The series sees Greg leave a career in New York to move to Stockholm with his girlfriend. Cultural differences and language barriers await I assume...which always makes for good TV. (July 10, 9/8c NBC)

The Strain - There isn't much in way of plot for this show and I'm glad. This looks damn good. From what I gather, an outbreak of scary Vampirism has hit New York and a scientist, Corey Stoll, basically is thrust into this scary vampire thingy that's going on and I assume must protect and prevent these monsters from getting at everyone. Sounds like my kind of show and I LOVE Corey Stoll (House of Cards, Midnight in Paris? Anyone?) so I am really really excited for this. And if you're a Lost fan, Carleton Cuse is an executive producer so it's sure to have twists and turns and mystery.... Just check out this promo. (July 13, 10/9c FX)

Those are my picks for Summer TV and I am WAY excited to watch. I hope they don't dissapoint, but there's a really strong batch of shows this seasons so I think one or two might stick.

What is everyone else watching this summer?
