Winter Friendly Makeup

Monday, November 17, 2014

Although I adore winter weather, it also means dry skin, chapped lips, and bitter wind that makes your eyes water. With the colder months in full swing at this point (at least where I am) it's the time to change up beauty routines in order to combat the damage done to your skin by winter.

Today I'm going to share with you my picks for the best winter friendly makeup products that will keep your skin healthy and hydrated and also keep you looking put together in the wintry months! I'll also share with you this makeup look using those hydrating products.

In general you should keep both your body and your skin fully hydrated. Having a glass of water as soon as you wakeup is a great way to jumpstart your skin for the day. Before I do my makeup, I wash my face and then moisturize my skin. Post moisturizing, I wait about 15 minutes for it to settle into the skin before I start applying makeup.

Here are my picks for the best 'winter friendly' makeup products (that I currently own).

First off, I like to start with a primer during winter. Primers in winter add an extra layer of moisturizer and will keep whatever foundation you pick stay on longer.

Primer

Clinique's Superprimer {feels almost like lotion, yet leaves the skin feeling hydrated}
L'Oreal Magic Lumi {so incredibly hydrating, leaves the skin dewy and glowing}
Maybelline Baby Skin {not the most hydrating, but a good primer for winter}
Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer {a hydrating primer with a slight sheen, perfect for a night look}

BB Creams

Garnier BB Cream Skin Renew {hydrating, goes on smoothly and leaves skin with a bit of a sheen}
L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifer BB Cream {a 4 in 1 product that gives great hydration and also primes and conceals}
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream {my favorite BB cream of all time, gives just enough coverage and hydration}
Rimmel BB Cream {another fantastic, inexpensive BB cream which gives the most coverage out of all 4 of these products}

Foundation

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Luminous Foundation {one of the most hydrating foundations out there, plus it's inexpensive since it's from the drugstore...it leaves the skin super glowing and hydrated}

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer {my favorite concealer for winter because it works to conceal under-eye circles, leaves you without creasing, and also is incredibly hydrating because of the maracuja oil that's in it}

Eyeliner

Because I think most eyeshadows are great for winter, I'm going to move onto an eyeliner that I love for the colder months.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner {this is a great liquid liner for winter because it's waterproof and won't smudge in the slightest...when those bitter winds come and make your eyes water, this won't move an inch}

Lips

A huge part of my winter beauty routine involve lipsticks, chapstick and lip balms. I've got a lot of great moisturizing and winter friendly lip products to share.

First up, its important to have a bunch of lip balms during Winter. These four are my absolute favorites and I'm never without one.

Chicken Poop {funny name aside, this product is tied for my favorite lip balm. It's long-lasting and it's hydrating and smells like lavender. It's also cruelty free and contains only natural ingredients so I feel great buying and using this.
Carmex {the other favorite lip balm...it's honestly the most refreshing and hydrating lip balm I've ever owned. My mom uses this, so I ended up using it and have my entire life.
Burt's Bees Lip Balms {any Burt's Bees product is great for your lips, they're so refreshing and there are countless options for flavors and smells}
EOS Balms {another great lip balm, I love the variety of flavors they have. Mine's pomegranate}
Maybelline Baby Lips {for a while, I was incredibly obsessed with these. They're still fantastic and the amount of variety in the lip colors is astounding. They're a great tinted balm}

Lipstick

NYX butter gloss {a great lip butter, these products are so hydrating and pigmented. They also smell delicious and looks so shiny and gorgeous on the lips}
Revlon Lip Butter {these are great lipsticks for winter. They're so incredibly buttery and naturally, they're moisturizing. It's a great product to have on your lips all night in the Winter because it works as a lipstick and a lip balm}
Revlon Colorburst Balms {these, also another Revlon favorite, are also incredibly buttery and hydrating}
Bite Beauty Lipsticks {these lipsticks are my everyday go-to's for Winter and it's no wonder why...they're so smoothy and buttery on the lips and the amount of shades and color payoff are well worth the price}

~~~~~~
I did a little makeup look with the products I've mentioned along with a few shades from the Too Faced Everything Nice palette.
I primed with half the Clinique Superprimer and half the Magic Lumi Primer, which gave the skin such a healthy glow, which is important in winter so that you stay moisturized and so your skin doesn't look dull.
Next, I used a beauty blender to apply both the Magic Lumi Foundation and then the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. I didn't set the foundation because I wanted to keep that glowy look, but I did go in with the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer below my cheekbones and around the edges of my face. It gave my skin a gorgeous pick me up.
During winter, I love to skip blush because I get so naturally red from the cold wind.
After filling in my brows, I went in with 'Secret Lovers' from the Everything Nice palette in the crease, defining it slightly. Next up, I patted 'Mauvelous' and 'Kindness is Free' across the entire lid and then re-defined the crease with 'Be You'. After finishing with a brow highlight and inner tear duct highlight using 'Turtle Dove', the eyeshadow was finished.
I didn't want too much eyeliner so I used the Stila liner to lightly line my upper lash line. I finished off with Too Faced's 'Better Than Sex' mascara.
I finished off the look by highlighting the high points of my face with 'Inner Light' from that same palette and then putting NYX's 'Vanilla Cream Pie' butter gloss on my lips.
I love how this turned out and I love even more that it's a great look for the cold weather!
Do you have any favorite Winter Friendly makeup products?
  1. Cute makeup look, I should probably do more for my skin for the cold weather but I do use a lot of lip balm as my lips get so dry.
