Brown Eye (Shadowed) Girl

One of the best things about the transition of Summer into Fall is that your makeup and wardrobe transitions just as the seasons do. 

One of my favorite ways to spruce up my makeup in Fall is by utilizing beautiful browns, plums, golds, and warm toned shadows. Today's look uses one of my favorite eyeshadows from one of my favorite palettes - the Tarte 'Golden Days and Sultry Nights' palette. I go back to this palette all the time because it has 5 amazing shadows - a shimmery brown, true gold, shimmery green, matte brown, and matte white.

For this look, I blended the brown shimmery shadow into my crease - building color until it's deep and dark. Then, I patted a mixture of the gold from the Tarte palette and 'Beige' from my Lorac Pro 2 Palette, blending those two shadows into the brown shimmery shadow. For a little pop of color and fun, I used the green shimmery shadow in my inner tear duct and lower lash line. 

To keep the look a little more subtle and 'Autumn-esque' I used a brown liner. I find myself really opting toward brown liners lately because they're a little less harsh, but still give the same effect as black. 

I used L'Oreal's Infallible Lacquer Liner in 'Espresso' to line my eyes and create the cat-flick. The formula of this product is so perfect - it's creamy and smooth and goes on easily. I love this product so much!

I used my Nars Creamy Concealer under my eyes and then used my (newly-acquired and OH so LOVELY) Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette to set my under-eyes. I used that same Anastasia palette to contour, bronze, and highlight. I have been loving experimenting with this palette and I'll be doing a post on it soon.

To finish the look off, I used YSL's Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in 'Pink in Paris' - one of my favorite lipsticks of all time.

The 'Do it Yourself' Autumn Lip

Today is officially the first day of Autumn and it's a day I always look forward to. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons (behind Winter) because I love cold weather, the beautiful way the leaves change, hot cider, and of course, the Autumn fashion and beauty trends. 

One Autumn beauty trend that I always participate in is that classic 'Autumn Lip' - or that beautiful plum/red/purple shade that seems to just fit the season perfectly. 

It's probably one of the best feelings when you find your perfect shade, but it's also very difficult. Even though I do have some favorites that are easily bought (which I'll share with you later on this season), it's actually pretty easy to create your own. The 'Do it Yourself' Autumn lip is easy and utilizes lipsticks, lip liners, and lip glosses you already own!

Today I'll be showing you a combination of three lip products that created the wonderful shade you see above - it's beautiful, perfect for this season, and wears all day.



1. Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Pencil in 'Addiction' - Neutral, Purple and Brown Tones
2. Makeup Forever Rouge Artiste Intense Lipstick in 'Mat 8 - Bright Red' - Rich Red
3. Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in 'Musk' - Pink and Brown Tones

This is such an easy look to recreate and such an easy look to create yourself - using whatever products you own.

To start out, I lined my lips with Rimmel's 'Addiction'. This liner is a deep purple/brown shade and gives a great base to add extra color on. I lightly filled in the rest of my lips using the liner.



Next, I used a lip brush and painted on the Makeup Forever Lipstick. I put the red on first because of how strong the color is - meaning it's easier to blend on top of it. 

Lastly, using the same lip brush, I painted on 'Musk' from Bite Beauty. This lipstick is a lot creamier than the other two lip products so it was easy to apply last. The combination of the three products left me with a beautiful plum lip for Autumn! 



Honestly, I just randomly decided to try and make a new Autumn lip color and I really love how it turned out!

The Best Liquid Liners

If there's one staple in my eye makeup routine, (other than mascara of course) it's liquid liner. I absolutely love amping up my makeup with a cat-eye - which is best achieved with liquid liner - because it looks cool and has become a signature of my daily makeup.

Below are my four favorite liquid liners. 

1. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($22)

This is probably my all time favorite liquid liner. It goes on so smoothly and literally will not move from your eyelid all day. It's deep and dark and looks great with dark makeup. The name is completely accurate. It's the most pricey of the bunch but it's worth the price.

2. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner ($19)

Another favorite of the high-end variety is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. It's a little less watery than the Stila liner, which has it's pluses, and the little tip of the liner is the perfect size to line your upper lash line precisely. 

3. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Precision Micro Eyeliner ($6)

One of my drugstore favorites for liquid liner is this Rimmel Precision Micro Eyeliner. The tip of the liner isn't as flimsy, so it makes applying it easy. The consistency isn't as smooth as the high-end liners but it's still a fantastic product.

4. NYC Liquid Liner ($3)

Finally, NYC's Liquid Liner is another drug store variety liner that I love. It's got an incredibly rigid and thick tip, which makes it so incredibly easy to draw a quick line. The only downside is that the strength and color payoff isn't as strong as I'd like. But, it's only $3 and that's a fantastic deal.

Quick and Easy Apple Crisp

There's nothing I love more than baking. And as Autumn approaches, I've been getting more and more excited about everything it brings - falling leaves, sweaters, cozy nights in and lots and lots of baking.

Today's post is one of my favorite Autumnal recipes: Apple Crisp (or Apple Crumble as some like to say). It's such an easy recipe and so delicious. 

Emily's Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

2 apples, peeled and chopped

1/2 cup Oats

1/2 cup Flour

1/2 cup Sugar (any kind of your choosing)

1 teaspoon Cinnamon

A sprinkle of allspice or nutmeg

1 teaspoon Vanilla

5 tablespoons butter, softened

Directions: 

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

2. Peel and slice apples and place in oven safe dish/bowl/cooking apparatus [I used a small round corningware bowl]

3. Grab a bowl and add 1/2 cup of oats to it.

 4. Next, add 1/2 cup of flour to the bowl.

5. Add 1/2 cup of sugar to the bowl.

6. Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the bowl.

7. Next, put 5 tablespoons of butter in a bowl and soften it in the microwave. Zap the butter for a minute on half power so it doesn't burn.

8. Add the butter to the dry ingredients, stirring it together until everything is mixed.

9. Add 1 teaspoon of Vanilla to the ingredients, once again mixing until everything is incorporated. Here you can add the nutmeg or allspice.

10. Spread the mixture across the apples in the oven safe dish.

11. Cook for 30 minutes, or until the topping is crispy, bubbling, and golden brown!

Senior Year: The Work Space

If you weren't aware, I'm a college student in New York. That means that each year, things change for me. Whether it's a new dorm room, apartment, or internship, I find that my work space is always changing. 

For my final year of college (scary!!!!!) I have a new apartment, with some awesome roommates, and my own bedroom for the first time in my college career! 

And because I blog, have loads of homework, and enjoy spending hours on the internet (hi Netflix and Hulu!) I love creating a special and relaxing workspace. In today's post, I'm showing you my workspace: The Senior Year Edition. (Plus the 5 things I love best about my set up, which is inspired by WeWork - Office space that is used for coworking) I've been to a few of the New York WeWork's and I love how organized and work appropriate they are - while also being stylish and fun.

1. I'm obsessed with the overall ambiance: A warm desk lamp and Christmas lights help to make my desk homey and really create a relaxing space. 

2. Accents of friends and family: I love putting up photos and reminders of my friends and family. 

3. New York mementos: These are two of my favorite things on my wall. The first is a coaster from a great bar in Brooklyn, Loosie Rouge. Below it is a business card from my favorite speak easy, Please Don't Tell.

4. Makeup: I love keeping some of my makeup on my desk, along with brushes, perfume, and jewelry. I think it adds a bit of fun and beauty to my desk.

 

5. Easy reachable supplies: I have an entire drawer devoted to all my writing and homework supplies. I like to keep it all in one place because it keeps me more organized. I also love having my planner on my desk so I can note things and keep track of assignments and appointments.

The Perfect Red Matte Lip

I think that one of my all-time favorite makeup products is a good red lipstick. Unfortunately, it's so hard to find the perfect shade and the perfect formula. I've tried many a red lipstick in many different forms, and today I'm sharing my favorite combination for that perfect matte lip. 

The two products I use are NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in 'Mysterious Red' and Sephora Cream Lip Stain in '01 - Always Red'. 

This mixture has been working out really nicely when I want to have a beautiful matte lip.

To apply the lip products, I usually just freehand it. But since it's such a dark shade and harder to fix up, it's easier to line your lips with the shade first and then fill them in. If you don't wear a lot of lipstick then I'd definitely suggest lining your lips using a lip liner or lip brush. 

I used a lip brush and the NARS lip pencil to line my lips and then used the pencil to fill in the rest of my lips. I then went over my lips with the Sephora Lip Cream to darken it up. Once it dries, it leaves your lips matte and beautifully red.
